🇺🇸 English Version: TAP Air Portugal Relocates Operations to Valencia (VLN) and Reactivates European Connectivity
Mirroring its European competitors, Portugal's flagship carrier has temporarily relocated its entire operational infrastructure to Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia (VLN). This reactivation provides massive logistical relief, not only for regular corporate and business travelers but also for thousands of passengers looking to reunite with their families or manage commercial ties across the Atlantic, who will no longer need to cross borders to catch a flight to Europe.
🔄 Flight Logistics: Operations & Technical Stopover
To ensure maximum safety and efficiency for a transatlantic route of this magnitude, the airline has structured a mixed flight plan utilizing its state-of-the-art Airbus A330neo fleet:
-
Outbound Flight (Lisbon - Valencia): Completely non-stop, providing a clean, direct connection between Europe and Carabobo's capital.
-
Return Flight (Valencia - Lisbon): Will require a mandatory technical refueling stopover at Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (PTP) in Guadeloupe (French Caribbean). Valencia's runway lacks the required length for such a heavy, wide-body aircraft to safely take off with full fuel tanks for a long transatlantic journey. Consequently, the aircraft will depart Valencia "light" and fully refuel at this Caribbean base before crossing the ocean.
📅 Operational Schedule & Timetable
Flights will operate twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays) under the following local time schedules:
-
LIS ➔ VLN Route (Flight TP 173): Departs Lisbon at 10:15 AM | Arrives in Valencia at 02:40 PM (Non-stop operation).
-
VLN ➔ PTP ➔ LIS Route (Flight TP 174): Departs Valencia at 05:00 PM | Arrives in Lisbon at 07:30 AM (+1) the following day (Technical operation with a one-hour ground refueling stop in Guadeloupe).
| Flight | Route / Leg | Days of Operation | Departure (Local) | Arrival (Local) | Aircraft | Operation Type |
| TP 173 | Lisbon (LIS) ➔ Valencia (VLN) | Mondays & Thursdays | 10:15 AM | 02:40 PM | Airbus A330neo | Direct: Clean transatlantic connection. |
| TP 174 | Valencia (VLN) ➔ Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP) ➔ LIS | Mondays & Thursdays | 05:00 PM | 07:30 AM (+1) | Airbus A330neo | Technical Stop: 1-hour ground refueling in Guadeloupe. |
💡 VUELITOS PRO TIPS
-
Priority for Stranded Passengers and High Backlog: Just like Iberia, TAP’s initial flights will heavily focus on rebooking passengers affected by the June flight suspensions. If you hold a ticket for July or August originally issued out of Caracas, contact your Vuelitos advisor immediately to manage a manual rerouting to Valencia and secure your seat before summer peak demand fills up the remaining inventory.
-
Is a visa required for the technical stopover in Guadeloupe? No. Since this is a technical stop strictly for aircraft refueling, passengers do not disembark or pass through customs/immigration control. Therefore, no Schengen visa, French transit visa, or additional entry permits are required for this flight.
